Getting Creative

I begin my creations with a planning sketch. Because I never know when I will feel creative, I carry a little notebook with me everywhere. This is an invaluable tool for getting all those ideas out of my head and onto paper. This helps to see whether a design will be visually appealing before I put needle to wool.

Once I have a good feeling about a design I then set about choosing my palette of colours from a large selection wools. I use natural wools, blended fibres and sometimes even silk. I would like to say I favour a particular wool, but it is the variety of wools that make each creation so unique and help bring different creatures to life.

Natural Materials

Many of my creations use other natural materials and driftwood found on our local beach is often integrated into my designs.

Needle Felting

Needle Felting is the art of taking free form wool and using specially barbed needles to create a sculptural object.
I find it very relaxing and on some days even theraputic (Everyone has a day that would benefit from stabbing something 🙂 ) The only limit is your imagination.
I live in what my friends would describe as a small petting zoo, 1 dog, 2 cats, 3 guinea pigs and a tank full of marine fish and corals. I also share our home with my husband, the frustrated editor of this website, as apparently felting doesn’t put words on pages! We have 2 gorgeous boys who are a constant source of inspiration with their beautiful imaginations because, why wouldn’t a shark eat pizza? or a Unicorn be bejewelled?

The Wirral

We live on the Wirral which has everything you could find to get your creative juices flowing. The stunning coastline and ever changing parks and woodland surround us. We often take Betsy, the crazy Cockapoo on a fairy or Gruffalo hunt in the local woods.
